Bolles Sharks Shine at Winter Juniors!

Another Great Winter Junior Nationals!

What a great team!

Pic by Chandler Soapes ;-) Thanks!

I know it is kind of late to post about the 2013 Winter Junior Nationals that took place last week in Knoxville, Tennessee.  To my defense is that every time I got to the hotel at Junior I was tired and I would fall asleep ;-) right away and then I traveled to Istanbul for Short Course Worlds and honestly with internet issues and things every time I get back to my room I feel like resting. I think I am getting old for all this traveling ;-)

Well our Bolles Sharks did a very good job at this past Winter Juniors. Our team overall placed 2nd to show that we are consistently one of the best Junior Teams in the country.  Since 2007 I believe we have been in the top two twice and we have won the meet four times in six years.  Congratulations swimmers, parents and coaches!

Congratulations to Caeleb Dressel for breaking the oldest NAG in the book in the 100 Free with a blazing 43.29. Caeleb took charge of the race from the start and he was able to keep his stroke together to hold off three other swimmers that chasing him and also broke 44 seconds.  I believe this is the fastest 100 Free ever at Junior Nationals having 5 swimmers breaking 44 seconds between the A Final (4) and the B Final (1). I also want to Congratulate Caeleb's coach Jason Calanog for the great job he is doing developing Caeleb and coaching the Late Night Group at Bolles. Proud of you both!

Also another Shark swimmer that needs special mention is Ashley Neidigh and her Epic last day. Ashley had a couple of tough first days but at the end she took the pressure of herself and came to compete to get the most points possible for the team and she ended up placing third in the 1650 with a 16:13.51 missing her best time by 0.01, and also swimming almost a best time in the 200 Breaststroke being able to swim the semifinals. Congratulations to her and her coach Jon Sakovich.

Caeleb and Ashley were really having a tough time Friday with their races and being able to come back on the last day and swim the way they swam speaks very highly of their mental attitude, toughness and Coaches advice and work with them.  Great example for everyone and very proud of all of them swimmers and coaches.

Watching this team makes me very excited for the future of our Sharks since we are full of young swimmers that want to really see how good they can be.  They are not afraid to work and most important to race.  I left the meet knowing that we could had done better but also understanding that many of our Sharks were new to this meet and to have the taper for High School States and then come back three and half weeks later and try to swim faster against the best in the country is a tough task to learn.  We have learned and we will be much better next year.  Can’t wait!

Here are some the highlights of our results.  Again CONGRATS to everyone and like Coach Jason said:

What a GREAT DAY to be a Bolles Shark where ever you may be!!!!

Bolles Sharks Break the 13-14 200 Medley Relay NAG Record!

It has been a great few days of good and fast swimming for our Bolles swimmers.  Last night (Tuesday 11/13/12) we had our 2012 Bolles Time Trial to take advantage of the resting that we did for High School States and hopefully get some more cuts for different meets.  The results were great, even though the meet was after class and it was raining and kind of cold.

Our Boys 13-14 200 Medley Relay broke the National Age Group Record by over 2 seconds with and impressive 1:35.94, the old record was 1:38.24 by Premier A.C. of Klein set in 2012.  Sorry I did not have my camera with me L. CONGRATS!!!!

#1 Mixed 200 Yard Medley Relay

Team Relay Finals Time

2 BSS-FL A 1:35.94

Our Boys 15-16 200 Free Relay missed the National Age Group Record by 0.14 with an impressive 1:25.02. Great Job!!!

#16 Mixed 200 Yard Free Relay

Team Relay Finals Time

1 BSS-FL B 1:25.02

Dressel, Caeleb R M16 Fonteno, Michael R M16

Dietrich, Hagen W M15 Georgiadis, Luke L M16

20.12 41.57 48.35 1:03.65

One of our young swimmers James Daugherty (13) that was part of the Record setting relay swam an impressive 2:05.87 in the 200 Breaststroke to give him his first 2012 Winter Junior cut.  His best time from last February was 2:15.31. In my opinion James is a very talented swimmer with a great future ahead of him.  He is only in 8th grade and I am excited to get to work with him for this next five years.

This past few months we have been battling a lot of sickness and many of our kids could not swim today.  I think the stress of these past three weeks leading to the States with Districts and Regionals took a big toll on the kids.

Some other impressive performances we had today:

Caeleb Dressel (16) had a very good meet with a 23.14 back leading off in the 15-16 200 Medley Relay, 44.34 in the 100 Free and 20.12 50 Free leading off the 15-16 200 Free Relay

Santo Condorelli (17) that he was sick and after the meet he had 102 fever but never told me anything swam two pretty good races with 200 IM 1:50.18 & 100 Breast 56.90.

Ryan Murphy (17) swam an impressive 47.48 100 Fly and a 3:52.69 in the 400 IM with probably no more than 10 minutes rest in between.

Joseph Schooling (17) swam a 20.61 in the 50 Free, 49.03 in the 100 Back and a 57.09 in the 100 Breast with honestly too no more than 10 minutes between events.

Luke Georgiadis(16) made his first Junior National cut in the 100 Free with a 45.69. CONGRATS!!!

Marijn (Wizard) Van Zundert (18) that he graduated from high school last August and he is training with us to find a University for next academic year swam two very good races with a 56.60 in the 100 Breast and a 2:04.28 in the 200 Breast.  I think Wizard (we call him that because his name is too complicated to pronounce) will do very well in college and hopefully after Junior Nationals many college coaches start looking at him.  He came from the Netherlands this past August and he is improving at a very fast rate.

Other good swims that gave us more bonus cuts for Junior Nationals:

Meghan Haila (16) in the 200 IM with a 2:06.32, and in the 200 Breaststroke with a 2:19.91.

McKenna Deveber (16) in the 200 Free with a 1:52.94, and in the 50 Free 23.84.

Claire Rasmus (15) in the 100 Fly with a 57.40 and 50 Free with a 23.70.

Olga Lapteva (15) in the 400 IM with a 4:30.29, and in the 100 Fly with a 57.40.

Josh Booth (16) in the 500 Free with a 4:32.28.

Overall a very good meet for our Bolles Sharks even my 11 year old son Cobi swam best times in the 50 Free (29.93) breaking for the first time the huge 30 seconds barrier and 200 Breaststroke with an over 30 seconds drop and a 2:55.29. As you can see I am a proud “Papa”.  I know Cobi wants to be faster but I keep telling him that he is a lot faster than I was at his age and the only thing he needs is to keep working hard, patience and a little bit of luck ;-)

Now we need to get ready for our meet this weekend, The Gator Invite and same weekend Winter Nationals, a week later Junior Nationals and the following week the 2012 Short Course World Championships.  Busy next few weeks but it will be fun.

Everyone have a beautiful day!
