Ryan Murphy's 200 Back & High Point Award Videos

Here are a couple of videos from this past weekend at the 2012 Winter USA Swimming Nationals at the University of Texas, Austin.

Ryan Murphy had a spectacular weekend at his first Short Course Nationals by breaking a National Age Group Record and by winning the High Point Award.

Ryan’s 200 Backstroke on the last day of Nationals was an amazing swim for a 17 year old.  His 1:38.15 makes him the first 18 and under swimmer to break 1:40.00 in the 200 Back and also makes him the third fastest swimmer in the History of the event.  Besides getting a new 17-18 National record in the event he also broke the pool record that belonged to Aaron Peirsol.

Ryan took charge of the race from the start and really challenged the great Russian swimmer Arkady Vyatchanin (Gator Swim Club) from the begining to the end.  Ryan was ahead until the last few meters but he still was able to get his hand to the wall ahead of Arkady.  A good fact is that Arkady is the actual World Record Holder in the 200 Back in Short Course Meters. Hopefully a good sign for Ryan ;-)

Here is the video from the race we took from our phone.  I had to ask a friend of mine Mark Liscinsky (Assistant Coach at the American University) to take the video since I get too nervous and my hand shakes too much ;-)

Also here is the video of the High Point Ceremony with Missy Franklin, Matt Grevers and Ryan Murphy. This has a special meaning to me since I recruited and coached Matt Grevers at Northwestern University back in 2003-04 and now we have them both tied for the High Point award at Nationals.  Matt at this meet broke the American Record in the 100 Back with a blazing 44.55.  I feel so privileged that I have had this chance to coach both swimmers at different points in my career and to learn from both of them. I know that what I learned from Matt has helped me help Ryan develop his talent.  What a great day!

Now two more weeks for Ryan before he swims the 200 Back for the first time in Short Course Meters at the 2012 World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.  After this swim I really think and feel that he is very confident and excited to swim FAST and represent the USA at the highest level.

Good Luck to Ryan and Matt in Istanbul!!!

Great night here at Nationals for Bolles

Ryan Murphy swam like a pro tonight the 200 Back. He took the lead from the start and he was made to hold off the Great Russian Arkady Vyatchanin to win his first National Title.

His time 1:38.15 is the New National Age Group Record for 17-18, and the first time to have a swimmer 18 & under below 1:40.00.

Ryan's time today also broke the Texas pool record by Aaron Piersol with a 1:38, 45.

Also now Smacker Miles, Ryan's girlfriend, that will be attending University Of Texas next year will have something to remind her of him everyday :-)

I am having dinner now but I will download the video later.

Congrats to Ryan and his family. Very proud of him.

Go Bolles!

Ryan swims two tough races

Tonight here in Austin Ryan Murphy swam two very good races. We both thought that he was going to be faster but he really swam hard and did a very good job.

First was the 200 Free which he went out a little faster than the morning but he was not very good with the approaches to the wall. Still a good 1.36.23.

His second event was the 100 Back. He finished 5th by .04 from third. He agrees with me that he was a little sloppy. Three weeks ago he was 45.34 and tonight he was 45.96. Very good to be able to swim under 46 twice in three weeks.

Now tomorrow he will have a chance to swim a very good 200 Back and 100 Free.

I have not heard much about the Gator Invite back in Florida but Coach Jon just texted me that we had very good swims. Very happy for everyone in the Bolles family.

Well waiting for Ryan to finish warming down and ready for a good dinner.

Everyone Thanks for your support and have a beautiful night.

Ryan Murphy 18 & under National Champion

Here it is at the ceremony for the 18 & under National Champions from last night. In the picture Katie Ledecky (500 free), Clark Smith (500 free), Celine Like (200 IM) and Ryan (200 IM & 50 free).

Now more Fast Swimming waiting for us here in Austin.

Good morning for Bolles Swimming

Great morning for Bolles Swimming. A lot of Fast Swimming and Improvements from the news I keep getting from our swimmers and coaches at the Gator Invite back in Gainesville. Keep up the good work and Good Luck to every Shark at Finals tonight.

Here at Nationals Ryan Murphy had a very good morning. His first event, the 200 Free was a personal best time with a 1.35.76 that placed him 8th for tonight's Finals. He did not want to be in the top final since he wanted to have more rest before the 100 Back but life works in funny ways ;-) I have a feeling that he will be faster tonight.

His 100 Back was very good. He swam a controlled 46.18 placing 4th for tonight's Final. Hopefully he will be faster than at States ;-)

I will keep you posted and thanks for your support.
