296. Gisela Morales Breaks her National Record after Four years here in Barcelona at Worlds

By Sergio López Miró

July 30, 2013

Great day for Gisela Morales since she broke her own National Record in the 100 Back today here in Barcelona at the 2013 FINA World Championships.

Gisela’s video of the 100 Back National Record at the 2013 FINA World Championships:

I am very happy for her, her family and her coach back home Marco Antonio Caal.  Gisela stopped swimming for over a year and half and at the end of 2012 she contacted me because she wanted to come back to swimming and wanted me to coach her.  I was very excited to her that she wanted me to be her coach since I have known her for many years and I have watched her swim since she was very young.  I was wanted her to come and swim with me at West Virginia but when I went to talk with the coach she had already committed to AuburnL.  Well the World works in funny ways and now I had this chance in front of me.  The challenge was that she just had a baby and that I had to coach her online since she lives in Guatemala.

Well we have been working together (Gisela, Marco and me) for the last 9 months and the results could not have been better.  The main goals for this season were: learn how to cope with taking care of the baby and training, balancing her married life and training and also balancing her professional life and the training.  So far Gisela has done a tremendous job listening, learning and sharing with me her thoughts and experiences, and I have learned a lot at the same time from coaching her and having to think outside the box with this situation.

She swam an impressive 1:02”12, her last best time was 1:02”46 from 2009 and with the FAST suits.  Very impressive for a 26 year old mother of a beautiful young boy.

FELICIDADES GISELA Y MARCO!!!!

😉
