Back in 2006-2007 I had the privilege to coach an amazing group of swimmers back at West Virginia University on both our men’s and woman’s swimming and diving teams. That was the year that we won THE BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP, what a year. I guess now since WVU has moved to the Big 12 we will go down in history as the only WVU Swimming & Diving team that has won the BIG EAST Championship 😉
Well before I lose track of what I wanted to write here let me go back to that year. One of the great swimmers and more importantly great people that I had the privilege to coach was Sean Mahoney. He is really one of a kind as a swimmer and as a person. That was a very good season before my move from WVU to Bolles. At that point, Sean decided to go back home and attend classes and swim for Cal Berkley. Well, after the 2012 Trials Sean asked me if he could come and train at Bolles for a while. He did not know for how long, but at least to prepare for the World Cup Circuit. I was so excited because after I left WVU and he went To Cal, I never thought that I would have the privilege to coach him again. I told Sean absolutely if you want to come and train with us at Bolles you are more than welcome. So he packed up and he came this past August and trained with us until last week when he left to start traveling to the World Cup Circuit. Sean will be going to every single World Cup competition with the exception of Stockholm, Sweden. Here is his schedule:
2-3 Oct. 2012 Dubai (UAE)
6-7 Oct. 2012 Doha (QAT)
17-18 Oct. 2012 Moscow (RUS)
20-21 Oct. 2012 Berlin (GER)
2-3 Nov. 2012 Beijing (CHN)
6-7 Nov. 2012 Tokyo (JPN)
10-11 Nov. 2012 Singapore (SIN) (Sean will be doing some clinics here in Singapore 😉

These past couple of months have been great, having the chance to coach and be on deck with my “Bro” Sean and I just want to wish him the BEST OF LUCK in this great adventure that he has just started. Watching him train I feel very confident that he will have an amazing experience and that he will be able to have great performances at these meets. Most importantly he will have an amazing opportunity to see the World and grow as a swimmer and person.
Here is a picture of Sean, “Wizard”, Jason, my son Cobi, Michael and me enjoying the season opener for WVU Football vs. Marshall.
