What has helped you develop that passion burning inside of you?
Have you ever asked yourself what was one of the main things that helped you be passionate about your life? I do that a lot and I have come to the conclusion that it is always developing and there are certain moments that happen randomly that have a profound effect on my outlook at my life and the way I will do things from that moment on. Sometimes that moment in time just brings me back to how I felt when I was young and trying to understand myself and what I wanted to accomplish in my life (still trying to figure it out ;-).
Well the other day when I was at the Austin Grand Prix I had one of those moments. The meet went great since I only had two swimmers (one pro and one high school) and I was able to spend a lot of quality time with the high school swimmer. I always feel that when I can travel with a small number of swimmers like this time I can connect, teach and understand the swimmers better. I felt this time was a very good growing moment for the swimmer and me as a coach.
Now the “random moment” that made me feel alive and emotional internally was when I was listening to a musician and his band at a bar in Austin. I was already in the hotel and my friend Mark texted me and said that a friend of his (ex-swimmer) was playing at an Irish Pub in the infamous 6th street in downtown Austin. So I said “sure I will be there in few minutes”, I did not think twice and don’t ask me why. I get there and the music is already going on. The band’s name is Trent Turner and the Moontowers. We had a table right in front of the stage and watching Trent Turner play the guitar and sing just brought Goosebumps all over me. I don’t listen to Blues (I don’t know why) but watching Trent playing and signing with such passion made me feel very good. This guy was in his own world with his eyes closed and just letting everything that he had inside of him come out in the form of music.
What a “Great Moment in Time!!!!”
If every day I was able to be that passionate about my coaching and my swimmers understood and appreciated their talent the way Trent was playing the guitar at that moment in time THE SKY WOULD BE THE LIMIT!
INSPIRING and I can only say THANK YOU to Trent Turner and the Moontowers for sharing that moment with all of us at the bar.
One of the songs that made me buy their CD at the bar is “Billy Badass”. When Trent was just playing this song he just took me back in time to my beautiful city of Barcelona when I was young and then my city gave me a reason to be who I am. Thank You!
Now I sure hope some of my swimmers make it this summer to the 2013 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona not just to compete but to see, feel and understand the magic that a city like Barcelona has for everyone to embrace.
Austin-Barcelona THANK YOU for giving us the opportunity to feel that we belong somewhere no matter how far away we may be.
Here are a couple of things for you to see and listen. Enjoy and never stop living and appreciating “that moment in time” that happens randomly and has a profound effect on who you are and the direction your life takes. It is one of the most beautiful things about this life we live and that many times we don’t understand or we are afraid to feel and listen.
