Another Great Winter Junior Nationals!

What a great team!

Pic by Chandler Soapes 😉 Thanks!

I know it is kind of late to post about the 2013 Winter Junior Nationals that took place last week in Knoxville, Tennessee.  To my defense is that every time I got to the hotel at Junior I was tired and I would fall asleep 😉 right away and then I traveled to Istanbul for Short Course Worlds and honestly with internet issues and things every time I get back to my room I feel like resting. I think I am getting old for all this traveling 😉

Well our Bolles Sharks did a very good job at this past Winter Juniors. Our team overall placed 2nd to show that we are consistently one of the best Junior Teams in the country.  Since 2007 I believe we have been in the top two twice and we have won the meet four times in six years.  Congratulations swimmers, parents and coaches!

Congratulations to Caeleb Dressel for breaking the oldest NAG in the book in the 100 Free with a blazing 43.29. Caeleb took charge of the race from the start and he was able to keep his stroke together to hold off three other swimmers that chasing him and also broke 44 seconds.  I believe this is the fastest 100 Free ever at Junior Nationals having 5 swimmers breaking 44 seconds between the A Final (4) and the B Final (1). I also want to Congratulate Caeleb’s coach Jason Calanog for the great job he is doing developing Caeleb and coaching the Late Night Group at Bolles. Proud of you both!

Also another Shark swimmer that needs special mention is Ashley Neidigh and her Epic last day. Ashley had a couple of tough first days but at the end she took the pressure of herself and came to compete to get the most points possible for the team and she ended up placing third in the 1650 with a 16:13.51 missing her best time by 0.01, and also swimming almost a best time in the 200 Breaststroke being able to swim the semifinals. Congratulations to her and her coach Jon Sakovich.

Caeleb and Ashley were really having a tough time Friday with their races and being able to come back on the last day and swim the way they swam speaks very highly of their mental attitude, toughness and Coaches advice and work with them.  Great example for everyone and very proud of all of them swimmers and coaches.

Watching this team makes me very excited for the future of our Sharks since we are full of young swimmers that want to really see how good they can be.  They are not afraid to work and most important to race.  I left the meet knowing that we could had done better but also understanding that many of our Sharks were new to this meet and to have the taper for High School States and then come back three and half weeks later and try to swim faster against the best in the country is a tough task to learn.  We have learned and we will be much better next year.  Can’t wait!

Here are some the highlights of our results.  Again CONGRATS to everyone and like Coach Jason said:
